2009 BMW F800S

“Serious sporting” – with the BMW F 800 S common sense takes on a sporty edge.

The BMW F800 S has the all-round ability to take you through the city without hassle and gives you plenty of power for a weekend trip for two, yet always willing to take on your favourite local roads.

But an all-rounder has rational benefits too: it needs to be uncomplicated, reliable, low-maintenance and economical. You want it to be easy on the wallet and stress-free. Innovative functions and reliable, intelligent solutions are what characterise a real all-rounder – that’s the BMW F 800 S – and with the new lower seat height now available there’s a BMW Sport bike for everyone.

We call the combination of pleasure and common sense “serious fun”. And that’s just what the BMW F 800 S stands for. The entirely newly developed, powerful 85 hp parallel twin engine indulges you with speed and pulling power, while maintaining a low level of fuel consumption and meeting the most stringent environmental standards. The quiet toothed belt drive not only ensures loss-free power transmission
, but is also lower on maintenance than chain drive, with superior durability and is easy to change. The light chassis provides the ideal base for sporty handling – handy in town, directionally stable on country roads. ABS is available as an option. The sporty trim provides useful wind protection, the design of the fuel tank and seat line provides excellent ergonomics for the rider. Cool, fresh colours and a striking design round off the “fun” side of things.

Find out for yourself what “serious fun” feels like. Visit your BMW Motorrad dealer for a test ride on the F 800 S. Enjoy!

THE WAIT IS OVER! THE 2009 F 800 GS ARRIVES AT U.S. BMW MOTORRAD DEALERS
08/29/2008

BMW Motorrad’s Year of the Enduro Continues with the Arrival of a Powerful Dual-Purpose Twin
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – August 29, 2008… There’s still time to rule the woods, the desert and a four-lane highway with a versatile new ride this summer. After much anticipation in the motorcycling community, the all-new 2009 BMW F 800 GS has arrived at U.S. BMW Motorrad dealers.

On the road, the F 800 GS offers impressive speed and acceleration with its six-speed gear box and parallel twin engine, delivering 85 horsepower and 62 lb/feet of torque. Features like heated hand grips, available ABS (which can be turned off when riding off-road) and an on-board computer provide the comfort and safety of a long-distance touring bike.

Rooted in BMW History
The F 800 GS is the latest addition to BMW Motorrad’s dual-sport model lineup. The bike follows in the footsteps of the highly acclaimed R 1200 GS – which traces its roots back to the early 1980s when BMW won the grueling Paris-Dakar rally four times with its trailblazing dual-purpose R 80 GS.

BMW Motorrad’s GS model line also includes the upgraded R 1200 GS and GS Adventure. Since their debut in 2004, the versatile R 1200 GS and its rugged companion, the R 1200 GS Adventure, have earned praise from motorcycle enthusiasts and the press for their exceptional performance both on and off the road.

The R 1200 GS has earned award after award, including Cycle World’s Best Open Class Street Bike and the International Journalist’s Panel “Best Bike in the World.”
The R 1200 GS Adventure was named “Best Adventure Bike” three years in a row by editors of Motorcyclist Magazine.

Ready for Competition
With its wide range of enduro motorcycles and increasing numbers of riders who enjoy the “adventure sport” lifestyle, BMW Motorrad is celebrating 2008 as the “Year of the Enduro” by launching the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy competition on new F 800 GS bikes.

The International GS Trophy is a skills-based contest with GS riders coming from all over the world for a final meeting to pick the best of the best in Tunisia, North Africa, October 15 – 24. The competition is not a race, but a lengthy and challenging ride, both on and off-road, through the rugged countryside of Tunisia.

The event will include numerous tests in individual riding skills and group teamwork to overcome natural and manmade obstacles in the course of the ride.

A team of six riders is selected to compete for the GS Trophy from each of the following BMW Motorrad markets: the United States, Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Japan.

BMW’s First Series Superbike Comes off the Production Line.

As the excitement builds for BMW Motorrad’s introductory race to the Superbike World Championship at Phillip Island on March 1st 2009, the first series production version of the superbike has rolled off the production line in Berlin: the BMW S 1000 RR.

Based closely on the series production bike, the race version has been performing extremely well in recent tests held in Portimao and Valencia. BMW Motorrad Motorsport Team Alpha Racing, as well as riders Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus are very impressed with the bikes progress and what the future holds in the Superbike World Championship.

The series production BMW S 1000 RR is a completely new motorcycle for BMW Motorrad with a compact and light 999cc in-line 4-cylinder engine. The dry weight of the motorcycle is 183 kg.

Both its supreme performance figures and its outstanding riding properties make the BMW S 1000 RR an extremely attractive offer in the superbike segment.

The engine has a very compact cylinder head and is narrow in shape. The valves are activated by means of very small, light cam followers, virtually at Formula 1 level in terms of their dimensions. This construction ensures very high engine speeds and allows maximum freedom in engine design in terms of torque and output.

The BMW S 1000 RR optionally receives a newly developed sports ABS featuring four different modes as well as the dynamic traction control system DTC will be available. The principal function of the traction control system has been borrowed directly from the racing version.

The distinctive design of the S 1000 RR reflects the bold and muscular style of the superbike segment but also clearly represents the brand BMW. The new S 1000 RR will be available in the four finishes Mineral Silver metallic, Acid Green metallic, Thunder Grey metallic and – based on the BMW Motorrad racing colours – Alpine White/Lupine Blue/Magma Red.

The production version of the BMW S 1000 RR will be presented to the public during the European summer and customers globally and in Australia can register their interest in dealerships now.

It is anticipated that the BMW S 1000 RR will be available early 2010 with retail pricing to be announced closer to its arrival.

2008 BMW G650 Xmoto

Get your kicks – the BMW G 650 Xmoto sets the asphalt on fire.

Once this machine gets into gear, every bend in the road can get ready for some hot treatment. Light, powerful and with perfect banking – these are the attributes which allow the BMW G 650 Xmoto to show other bikes some surprising perspectives. The tighter the better. Easy handling thanks to compact geometry and 17-inch wheels, cool brake manoeuvres with no surplus weight to get in the way, faster acceleration out of the bend, drifting not a problem: if you want to explore the limits of this bike, you have to know your own first! Then the refined finish, from the cockpit to the rear – premium components such as the USD fork or the delicious – and very light – cast wheels. And last but not least a single cylinder engine which really causes a stir. Highly spirited but still economical, with an official 53 bhp, EU-3 and catalytic converter. And what about ABS? Combined with the highly durable quality and suitability for everyday riding offered by a real BMW, the G 650 Xmoto is a truly unique offer. But don’t expect the test drive to be a picnic …

When the city’s your race track.

An unfaired bike represents the doctrine of pure motorcycling. One hundred per cent wind in your face gives you one hundred per cent riding feel – as naked bike fans say. Unadulterated authenticity for the traditionalists, with a clear view of the technology for the purists. And urban bikes don’t just look good, they are great to ride too. A relaxed seating position, an easy knee angle and a handlebar offset which gives you full control – without having to be a pro. And what is more: a few simple adjustments and these asphalt racers can be converted into perfect travel companions. As soon as you are home and have reset the handlebars, they are perfect for everyday travel to work. And then there’s the wide range of powerful engines offered by BMW Motorrad. And lots of equipment features for one hundred per cent customizing. Any further questions?
